Welcome to Tod Mountain Ranch
All my life I lived in large cities. I was born in Dublin Ireland, and as a teenager moved with my family to a large city in the North of England. My career with international organisations saw me spend time living and working all over the UK with some short spells in Spain and culminating in 3 years living in Hong Kong – probably the busiest city in the World. I spent a great many years of my life travelling all over the world, some of it for work but a great deal of it for pleasure. It was during one my trips that I sat on a horse for the first time – in Texas. My love affair with horses had begun and I took my first Dude Ranch Vacation in the early 90’s and my future was set.
Since then, I have travelled to all corners of the world to take horseback riding vacations. I experienced many different countries and cultures, various breeds of horses and riding styles. From galloping with Zebra and Giraffe in Africa to pushing a slow lazy herd of cows though the bush in Wyoming. Always during these trips I would think ‘wouldn’t this be a great way to live...’ About 10 years ago, during one such trip with a friend of mine to Alberta, we were sitting on the porch of our cabin with a nice cold beer after a long days ride. I remember saying to her ‘I could do this.....’. And so the journey began.
I had visited Western Canada several times over the years, and was always struck by the beauty of BC. This was where I decided I wanted my ranch to be. In the summer of 2007, I took a career break and came to Canada for a 6 month visit. Within 3 months I had bought Tod Mountain Ranch, an 80-acre former cattle ranch in the Louis Creek Valley, surrounded by thousands of hectares of Crown Land. The next 2 years were spent developing the business, designing the guest lodge and cabins, getting the required permits, buying and training horse, and of course finding new and exciting trails to ride on.
We welcomed our first guests in June 2009 and since then have shared this amazing place with visitors from far and wide as we ride my strong, beautiful horses on old logging roads and cattle trails through the bush and along the creek and then relax on the porch as the sun sets, glass of wine in hand, and relive the highlights of the day.
I very much look forward to welcoming you to our ranch sharing the peace and tranquility that is Tod Mountain Ranch.
