What could be better than a day spent in the saddle exploring mountain trails and breathing in that fresh mountain air, followed by a soak in the hot tub as the sun sets. Enjoy a delicious home cooked meal, share a drink and stories with new found friends. End the day competing at shuffleboard, or try your hand at cards before you fall into bed in the rustic luxury of your cabin.
Tod Mountain Ranch can accommodate 16 guests in comfortable cabins, each with private bathroom. Guests share a western style living, dining and games area in the main lodge. Spend your vacation with Tod Mountain Ranch and dare to live the Cowboy dream.
The Horses Tod Mountain Ranch has around 30 horses, all trained and experienced to carry you safely along any of the trails. The horses are a mix of Quarter Horses, Paints and mixed breeds. All are strong and sure footed, easily able to cope with the sometimes arduous terrain as you climb mountain trails to elevations of 1200m.
Tod Mountain Ranch Has the Right Horse for You Experienced Wranglers will select a horse for you based on your riding experience to ensure a balance of safety and adventure.
Get to Know the Horses Feel free to come to the barn in the morning to watch the Wranglers round up and select the horses for the day's rides, then give them a hand with the feeding and grooming. Don’t worry if you’ve never done it before, they’ll show you how. At the end of each day's riding, you are also welcome to help the Wranglers unsaddle the horses and turn them out for the night.
Enjoy the Ride All of the horses are fitted with comfortable trail saddles designed for long hours and tough conditions. Each saddle will be fitted with saddle bags and water bottles providing plenty of room to carry small items such as a camera, lip balm etc. Slickers will also be tied on to all saddles in case of rain.
The Trails There are a variety of rides that vary in duration from a couple of hours to all day rides. Ride on old logging roads and cattle trails high up into the mountain alpine, crossing streams and riding along the creeks.
Explore the Trails On shorter two and three-hour rides, ride out after breakfast returning to the ranch for lunch. Then after lunch, ride out again to explore a different direction and a new set of trails still returning in plenty of time for you to relax and freshen up before dinner.
Longer Day Trips On other days, pack lunch in your saddle bags and follow the trails to Cahilty or Community Lakes, where you can enjoy a picnic by the lake or out in the bush. During the hotter summer days, you may have the opportunity for an evening ride.
Trails for All Levels of Horse Riding Experience The pace of the rides vary with the terrain and the experience and preferences of the group. Sometimes, you will enjoy leisurely walks, while at others there will be opportunities for the more experienced riders to canter and gallop.
Riding instruction in the arena is also available. So whether you’re a novice rider looking to improve your riding or an experienced rider who wants to blaze the trails at a faster pace, make sure you get an exhilarating day in the saddle.
