Overview
Experience An Authentic, Historic Ranch Vacation in Wyoming The outside world is all but forgotten once you enter the T Cross gate and gaze upon the incredible spires of the Absaroka mountain range. Guests step back in time on this 160-acre piece of history that lies in a secluded meadow tucked up against the spectacular Shoshone National Forest. T Cross was homesteaded in the late 1800s by a fugitive from the Johnson County Cattle Wars and has been operated as a dude ranch since 1919. The main lodge and cabins were gradually handcrafted by tie-hacks from the ranch’s own Lodgepole pine. Unique in its authenticity, T Cross remains a true vision of the frontier west.
Horseback Riding Programs Are Their Specialty The ranch owns over 50 horses to suit riders of every experience level. The horses have in common a rugged sure-footedness to carry you safely to and from the precipitous, breathtaking country surrounding the ranch in Shoshone National Forest and Washakie Wilderness. Each guest (6 years or older) is assigned a horse for the duration of the stay according to ability. Riding instruction is available upon request. Half-day and full-day picnic rides offer a variety of scenic options. The deep timber, stands of aspen, tranquil meadows and breathtaking vistas of the Washakie wilderness are just out the back gate. And let’s not forget the elk, deer, moose, porcupines, coyotes, osprey, hawks, and eagles you often see along the way.
Enjoy Secluded Fly Fishing Fly fishing is a popular pastime on picturesque Horse Creek, which winds through T Cross Ranch. There is a healthy population of Brook Trout and Mountain White Fish and an annual stocking program has been initiated with the addition of hundreds of pounds of 10-14 inch hatchery Rainbow and Cutthroat trout. T Cross subscribes to catch and release, barbless hook fishing; however, occasionally fish are kept for breakfast or dinner enjoyment.
Isolated, Informal and Peaceful T Cross maintains an informal atmosphere offering a colorful blend of the old west and the creature comforts of home. Guests reside in cozy log cabins nestled in the pines, decorated with Lodgepole furnishings, Indian rugs, and artifacts. Each cabin is outfitted with wood stoves, fireplaces, hot showers and their own porches enticing one to sit back while enjoying the peaceful solitude and dramatic views of the surrounding wilderness.
The main lodge, filled with authentic, western charm is a fun gathering spot for meals and socializing. Its grand, stone fireplace wards off the chill of the mountain mornings and evenings, while the spacious front porch is perfect for relaxing with a good book, chatting with new friends or simply embracing the splendid seclusion T-Cross has to offer.
T Cross Ranch has been family owned and run for over 80 years and is recognized by Wyoming as an historic treasure. Your hosts are Mark and Gretchen Neal Cardall. T Cross has been in the Neal family since Gretchen’s parents, Ken and Garey Neal, became owner/managers in 1991. The relaxed atmosphere that permeates T Cross stems not only from the Neal’s and Cardall's great rapport with the guests but also from their innate understanding of the need for flexibility. Over the years, they have developed and nurtured relationships with guests who continue to return to T Cross year after year.
