Overview
Shangrila Retreat Guest Ranch is truly southern hospitality at its finest. They cater to couples, families, and small groups. They have ridden thousands of miles of trails and handled the equestrian activities at the former Marriott’s Berry Hill Mansion. Shangrila’s goal is to accommodate individuals and ensure that they have a pleasant and memorable vacation experience. They are committed to providing guests of all ages with fine food, great trail riding, and lots of fun and entertainment.
Horseback riding is the featured activity at Shangrila Retreat Guest Ranch. However, the majority of guests start with little to no riding experience. When you’re ready, they’ll pick just the right horse for you to suit your riding skills from their string of seasoned, well-trained horses. All rides are guided and accompanied by experienced trail guides. You choose the kind of outing that best fits your schedule - anywhere from a one to two-hour morning and/or evening ride, or an all-day ride with lunch on the trail. This is determined by your group and what you are comfortable with. Those who choose not to ride a horse on an all-day trail ride may ride in the horse-drawn wagon along with the horseback riders. Horses are great, but for some folks hiking, walking, or fishing in the stocked pond is the way to enjoy the great outdoors. Their paradise home consists of more than just horses. Mules are also used for trail riding, wagon rides, and plowing. During your stay, you are welcome to try riding the different breeds they have: mules, Tennessee Walking horses, and Quarter horses.
A typical day starts with a family style breakfast served at the Packhouse, consisting of eggs, meats, cereals, fruits, coffee and juice. After breakfast, you can assist in grooming and tacking horses, relax, or take a leisurely stroll. Lunch will either be on the trail or at the Packhouse, depending upon the length of the ride. After riding, guests can relax in the hammock, fish in the pond, or find a rocking chair on the Packhouse porch. A grilled dinner with fresh vegetables, salad and beverages will complete each day before retiring to the campfire.
The Old Home Place was built in 1801, and has been cherished and called home by many families over the last 200 years. The home has three bedrooms, living room with fireplace, kitchen, bathroom, washer and dryer. Today, the home provides a haven for visitors to relax, whether on the porch overlooking the herb garden or in the hammock for afternoon snoozes. Cozy up to the fireplace, relax and reminisce. Pastures surround the house and the ducks are waiting for you on the pond nearby.
The farm is an exciting place to be any season of the year. No matter which season is your favorite, there are activities to enjoy all year long. There is something for everyone – singles, couples and families. Children especially enjoy collecting eggs from the chickens, feeding the ducks and other farm animals. The ranch experience is an excellent opportunity for quality time together. Come and be a part of their family and come home to Shangrila - paradise on earth!
