Overview
Rancho De La Osa is a 300 year old intimate property located 65 miles from Tucson and is one of the last great haciendas in America. Established as a guest ranch in 1923, Rancho De La Osa’s history has been lovingly preserved in the beautiful buildings that rest comfortably in the rolling grasslands of the high Sonoran Desert.
While meal times are focused around quality food and wine, daytime activities include horseback trail rides, guided hikes, nature walks, mountain biking, bird watching and a gentle exercise program for all abilities. Rancho De La Osa’s themed weekends include cowboy cookouts, half and full-day hikes, wine tasting dinners, cooking lessons, cattle round ups, dudeos and informal western dance instruction. And, to compliment your experience, the outdoor heated swimming pool, hot tub, peace garden, and massage service provide a holistic approach to your restoration and relaxation.
The hacienda, built between the 1830s and 1860s, today houses two dining rooms and four salons, with fireplaces for warmth and guest relaxation. The adobe walls of the hacienda are more than two feet thick, providing natural cooling protection from the summer heat and warmth from the late night winter chill.
Known as the "Old Adobe", the cantina is reputed to be the oldest building in the state of Arizona – it has been occupied since the early 1700s and was built as a mission outpost, in what was then New Spain, to provide traveling Jesuit priests with supplies. Used as a gathering place since the 1920s, the cantina has a huge fireplace which was once open on both sides - one side for a blacksmith shop, the other as a gathering place for guests. Today the cantina is used for guest socializing.
The territorial-style guest quarters, made from ancient clays of the ranch, are wonderfully serene, simply elegant and perfectly weathered. The 21 adobe guest rooms are uniquely and vibrantly furnished with Mexican antiques. All rooms are ground level with separate entrances and private bathrooms. Each has a porch that opens to mountain views and most rooms have a wood burning fireplace. All rooms are in close proximity to the pool, hot tub, corrals and dining areas.
As well as being a unique holiday destination for those interested in horse riding, hiking, nature, history and the great outdoors, Rancho De La Osa is also a perfect venue for family reunions, birthday celebrations, seminars, retreats, business conferences, team building getaways, weddings and themed workshop weekends. Because of its size and location, Rancho De La Osa can provide you with an intimate and secluded setting for your special event and can offer the ranch for exclusive use for these occasions. Furthermore, Rancho De La Osa will work with you to produce a tailor-made itinerary to fit your requirements to ensure that your special occasion is an event to remember.
With more than 300 days of sunshine a year and night-time stars that shine with unmatched clarity within a coal black sky, Rancho De La Osa is a special place that rejuvenates the spirit and invigorates the soul!

- Sunset Magazine: "This former Spanish haciendastill has a pleasing air of wildness about it, good hiking, horseback riding and bird-watching."

- San Francisco Magazine: "The place is as vibrant and playful as Chagall in a good mood. Against the dusty red dirt, fence posts blaze purple; 17th century adobe buildings are offset by a wall of turquoise."

- Hip Hotels USA: "First, in terms of location Rancho de la Osa is exactly where a ranch should be: in the high Sonoran Desert, just a mile from the Mexican border, a land of red earth and canyons once haunted by the likes of Geronimo and Cochise."
- Arizona Highways: "The effect harkens to the more genteel, slower times of the 1920s and '30s. In fact, one of our primary impressions was the quiet; the lack of hustle and bustle, the plummet in our blood pressures, and our unwillingness to leave."
- Objekt Interior, Architecture, Art & Design: "The peace is only disturbed by the sound of the ancient mission bell, ringing to announce the "cantina" is open or that dinner is served, very pleasant …"
- The Desert Home: "Evenings beckon their guests to the old hacienda patio for a famous ranch margarita or a sampling from their world-class wine collection. Interiors are a sophisticated blend of hand-hewn artifacts and contemporary art collection."
- Architectural Digest: "The couple's admirable historicism, while evident in everything from furnishings to architectural details is always subjugated to a single imperative: to make sure their guests relax."
