| Accommodations |
Guest cabins are picturesquely grouped amongst the aspen and ponderosa pine a short distance above the lodge. There are 16 separate guest cabins, each with a wonderful porch and varied configuration. Cabins vary from two bedrooms/one bathroom to larger three bedrooms/two bathrooms, living room and fireplace cabins. All have alpine views and are very comfortably furnished. Daily housekeeping is provided for all cabins. |
| Dining |
Each meal is a special occasion at Rainbow Trout Ranch. Great care is taken in the preparation and serving of every dish and consideration is given to the requirements of children as well as those with special dietary requirements. This is home cooking in the traditional sense with most everything prepared from scratch and baking is a specialty. In addition to the wonderful entrees (such as steak, ribs, turkey and trout), the ranch always has an abundance of vegetables, fruits and salads. All meals are served family style with all you care to eat.
During the week the ranch takes advantage of the wonderful weather by having frequent barbecues by the river and the pool. These are always a highlight. |

| Children's Programs |
For children aged three and older, Rainbow Trout Ranch offers full daytime activities and supervision by qualified counselors. This is not intended to separate families, but the option exists each day for everyone to do something different. It has been their experience that children really enjoy doing things with the counselors and other children their own ages. The activities include horseback riding (trail riding, arena practice and plenty of instruction), fishing, hiking, nature study, swimming and western crafts. There is also a lunch ride, and a Kids' Cookout with hotdogs, s'mores and a long horse drawn hayride later in the week. Of course children can join their parents for outings such as the train ride and the raft trip. While the ranch normally considers it safe for children six and older to ride a horse, children under that age will be led by the counselors in the arena and around the ranch. Guest safety is always Rainbow Trout Ranch’s highest priority. |
| Special Entertainment |
Western singer and guitarist performs old time western music each week. Also dancing, horse-drawn hayride, singalong and more. |

“America's Longest & Highest Narrow Gauge” Train Ride:
The Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad runs between Antonito, Colorado and Chama, New Mexico. The ranch is about midway between these two towns, thus having easy access to the train. Quoting from their brochure, "A special journey into yesterday, this enchanting narrow gauge steam railroad is an exciting and marvelous adventure, meandering 64 miles in the awesome peaks and valleys of the scenic Rockies, through tunnels, gorges, and breathtaking trestles." It is a very popular trip and it is necessary to make reservations to hold space. The ranch will make the arrangements for you upon your arrival.
The New Mexico Connection:
If you've never experienced the enchantment of New Mexico, it will be a real treat. The ranch is only a dozen miles from New Mexico and just an hour and a half from Taos. Santa Fe is just an hour further. You may take a day trip to either Taos or Santa Fe during your stay (the ranch will be happy to suggest museums, galleries, shops, and restaurants), or you might prefer to visit either city before or after your stay. While in the area, you must sample the authentic Northern New Mexican cuisine. It's the best Mexican food imaginable.
Rafting and Hiking:
Each week the ranch offers an extremely scenic raft trip below Taos on the Rio Grande River. This trip is actually conducted by a professional guide service with top quality boatmen. It is normally a half-day trip on the river and the minimum age for children is six years. (Age minimum can vary dependent upon the recommendation of the rafting company.) The ranch combines this trip with a tour of Taos and time for shopping. You will not want to miss this trip. Rainbow Trout Ranch will make the arrangements for you upon your arrival.
The ranch also offers an endless number of wonderful hiking trails. Maps will be provided so you can hike independently, plus, there will be guided hikes offered each week. The ranch provides sack lunches anytime you wish. |
