Overview

Grapevine Canyon Ranch, a guest and working cattle ranch, is located in the heart of Arizona's Apache country. At an elevation of 5,000 feet (1,500m), the ranch buildings, nestled among plentiful groves of Arizona oak, manzanita, and mesquite, are almost invisible in the wooded canyon where wild grapevines growing at the back give the ranch its name.

Grapevine is famous for its riding program. Guests have several options for riding, with a varied seven-day-a-week program and rotating destinations. Monday through Saturday, the schedule offers four rides: a morning trail ride, an advanced ride, an all-day ride, and an afternoon trail ride. On Sunday, the trail and the advanced ride converge at the cattle ranch headquarters for a cookout under the trees before heading out to participate in Horseback Games. Team Penning is an option on Saturdays at an additional cost. And for those guests looking for something a bit different, they can head down to Grapevine City in the afternoon, for Target Archery or Single Action Shooting. Two days a week, guests can saddle up and ride with the cowboy from the cattle ranch (in place of the advanced ride). They are welcome to participate in various ranch activities with the cowboys. There are four roundups per year - May, July, October and November - for which guests fly in from all four corners of the world! Group lessons are available Monday through Saturday mornings before the regular rides, as part of the overall riding program. This allows guests new to the saddle or those having been away from horses for years an opportunity to get some tips and hints before setting off for the morning. Private lessons are scheduled on an as-requested basis (additional cost involved). For people wanting to learn more about horsemanship and horse ownership, Grapevine Canyon Ranch offers a week long Horse Camp. Or for those that know exactly what they are looking for, Grapevine Canyon Ranch offers a Mini Horse Camp. The most popular program to date is the Cow Camp. Learn to rope, heard and drive cattle, go on a mini cattle drive, sleep under the stars with the cowboys, and drive the cattle back. They also offer specialty weeks, such as, Rockbuster week, Senior week, Step into History week, Rodeo days, and much more.

Grapevine has been welcoming guests year round for nearly 20 years and has developed a philosophy of providing personal attention to each guest. Guests are welcomed as part of the ranch family, and feelings of safety, comfort, and timelessness are nurtured. The valley, canyons, and mountains surrounding Grapevine are rich in history - Cochise, Geronimo, outlaws, the cavalry, early settlers - and the staff is well versed in local culture and color. The kitchen staff is excellent, with years of experience. Breakfast is cooked to order, while lunch and dinner are served buffet-style. The menu rotates over six weeks, and all meals are mouthwateringly delicious. Helpings are generous and seconds and thirds encouraged. Desserts are homemade - including uniquely flavored ice creams. Guests and staff dine together, furthering the Grapevine philosophy of personal attention guests come back for time and again. There is a pool and a hot tub, but no lifeguard is on duty. Ping-pong and pool tables are available, as are card games and an extensive video library. Each week you can play a friendly hand of poker with the staff. They may not play for money, but it does not stop them from being competitive.

The guest accommodations are cozily appointed and fresh, virtually sparkling in appearance. Grapevine’s housekeeping staff prides itself on cleanliness, winning the daily battle to keep the desert sand outside the cabins and casitas. The wranglers are all knowledgeable horse people from a variety of disciplines, and the majority of the entire staff does ride. Grapevine’s riding instructor has both public and private teaching experience with riders of all levels. Lucky to have a “singing” cowboy, the ranch invites guests to enjoy live country music and dancing each week.
