Overview
Flathead Lake Lodge is a famous 2,000-acre, family operated dude and guest ranch located just south of Glacier National Park, which was established by the Averill family in 1945. It first began operating as a western hideaway for vacationers from all parts of the world. It is uniquely located, nestled directly on the shores of the largest natural lake west of the Great Lakes with a backdrop of the majestic Bob Marshall Wilderness Area and Jewel Basin Primitive Area. This panoramic setting is perfect place to “leave all your troubles behind.”
Flathead Lake is named after the Flathead Indians who inhabit a reservation on the south end of the lake. The lake measures 30 miles in length and 15 miles wide. The pristine, crystal clear water is perfect for swimming and pure enough to drink. You can also enjoy the species of sport fish which range from the smaller Silver Salmon and Cut Throat trout to the larger Dolly Varden and Mackinaw which reach 40 lbs. Fishing is popular both on the lake and in the nearby rivers and streams.
Elevation of the ranch is 3,000 feet above sea level. You can anticipate summer temperatures ranging from a comfy 75-90 degrees during the day, and take pleasure in evenings being somewhat cooler.
Acres of sprawling lawns run from the Lodge to the lake's edge. Here you can enjoy an afternoon on a guided horseback ride into scenic private trails, many which overlook the lake. What a great way for you explore the nearby mountain trails.
Hospitality and the enjoyment of the guests are the main priority of Flathead Lake Lodge. The lodge has an open door policy where guests are encouraged to participate and observe all aspects of the ranch.
Take in additional activities, including evening rodeos, horse games in the riding arena, breakfast rides, cookouts, lunch rides, and a family rodeo. To ease your saddle sores, try sailing your own boat, crewing on one of the two 51’ Q Class racing sloops, whitewater rafting, canoe racing, and water skiing. You can swim in the lake or heated swimming pool. Put your athletic skills to the test at volleyball, basketball or tennis or you can simply relax at a beach fire. For you golf enthusiasts, the beautiful Eagle Bend, one of the highest rated public courses in Montana, is only five minutes away!
This Dude Ranch brings to life the horses, cattle, cowboys, dudes and rodeo. They combine them all together for quick friendships and plenty of good fun. You are free to learn all aspects of the ranch from riding or roping to the everyday chores around the corrals.
Today the ranch continues to operate the same, offering guests an opportunity to experience a real western ranch vacation and genuine hospitality in a setting of unmatched beauty. Come relax, refresh and toss your schedules aside.
