Overview

The Bill Cody Ranch is a unique and historical dude and guest ranch facility. The main lodge, built in 1925, was owned by the grandson of Buffalo Bill Cody and has pampered guests from all corners of the world.

The century-old adventure story of Wyoming has all the ingredients of a classic western. In a colorful setting of vast rangeland and rugged mountains, a cast of Indians, trappers, stockmen, farmers, miners and oilmen have played their roles in a sometimes flamboyant, sometimes starkly simple drama of conflict and growth. The protagonist of the tale, and probably the most enduring character in American lore, is the cowboy, the very essence of the state.

Bill Cody Ranch is located 26 miles west of Cody and 26 miles east of the east entrance to Yellowstone National Park in the Shoshone National Forest. Established by presidential proclamation in 1891 as the nation’s first forest reserve, the Shoshone National Forest occupies nearly 2.5 million acres in northwestern Wyoming. Its boundaries extend south from Montana and include parts of the Beartooth, Absaroka and Wind River mountains. The forest includes the state’s highest mountain, Gannett Peak. Elevations in the forest range from 4,600 feet at Clarks Fork Canyon to 13,804 feet at Gannett Peak.

Right in the middle of what Teddy Roosevelt called “the most scenic 52 miles in all of America” lies Bill Cody Ranch. This small, friendly property gives you the freedom to plan your own guest-ranch vacation with no minimum-stay requirement and a very flexible rate structure, a la carte activities program, and lots of value. There is a ride here for everyone, as the ranch utilizes 16 trailheads, on and off the ranch, in the 2.5 million acres of Shoshone National Forest. Due to the rugged, mountainous terrain, all the rides are done at a walk.

As a full service resort, Bill Cody Ranch offers a variety of family activities including daily wilderness trail rides, guided pack trips and guided fishing trips in the Shoshone National Forest and whitewater float trips.

No matter how much or how little you are looking to do, John and Jamie are proud to share their Wyoming heritage and home with you and will create a package that is tailored to fit your family’s adventure and ranch vacation.
