Overview
Bar Lazy J Guest Ranch is nestled in a peaceful valley along the banks of the Colorado River. Opened in 1912, Bar Lazy J is considered the oldest continuously operating guest ranch in the state. The ranch has a fascinating history. While the original log lodge and cabins have been modernized, everything possible has been done to retain the look and atmosphere of the "old west". You will enjoy stepping into the past. Bar Lazy J was one of three Colorado guest ranches featured in the book Old-Time Dude Ranches Out West by Elizabeth Clair Flood.
Bar Lazy J’s 3/4 miles of river frontage, which is designated "Gold Medal Fishing", offers some of the best Rainbow and German brown trout fishing in the state. Not only is it a challenge for the "old time" fisherman, it is great fun for the beginner or in-between. A free fishing clinic is offered weekly for anyone interested in learning more about fishing Bar Lazy J's stretch of river. They also have a stocked trout pond for everyone to enjoy.
Bar Lazy J’s horseback riding takes you through the Arapaho National Forest's sage-covered hills and majestic mountains, with its sapphire skies and crystal-clear views. Twice a day they have scenic, moderate and adventure rides on numerous riding trails covering a variety of mountain terrain. Once a week they offer a breakfast ride and an all-day ride. Bar Lazy J’s wranglers carefully consider experience and ability before pairing you with your horse for the week. They also encourage anyone who hasn't ridden for a while to let their wranglers give you personalized riding instructions.
Bar Lazy J Ranch offers much more than riding and fishing. They also offer a variety of non-riding activities to choose from, including: - Jeep Rides - Weekly scenic jeep ride into the high country surrounding the ranch.
- Mountain Biking - Fleet of Diamondback cycles for guests’ use.
- Rafting - Nearby is a rafting company offering an all day scenic trip with some whitewater.
- Hiking - Weekly guided hike in the Byers Peak Wilderness Area.
- Golf - Four 18-hole championship golf courses located within 30 minutes from the ranch.
- Van Trip - Weekly sightseeing trip by van into the Arapaho National Forest and nearby Grand Lake.
